Tyrell “Turbo” Jones had a short season with Auburn before he announced plans to transfer. Now, the point guard has announced his transfer destination, and it’s not too far away.

Jones tweeted that he has committed to South Alabama.

Jones, a sophomore, left the Tigers team just before Christmas and entered the NCAA transfer portal. He played in seven games with three starts this season, and averaged 11.6 minutes and 3.3 points per game. He

He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining at South Alabama, beginning with the 2021-22 season.

Originally from Chicago, Jones was a 4-star prospect coming out of West Oaks Academy in Florida. He was rated the No. 18 combo guard and No. 116 prospect nationally in the 2019 class on the 247Sports Composite.

In seven game appearances this season, Jones shot only 25 percent from the floor and had a negative assist-to-turnover ratio of 8-to-14.

“Tyrell was a hard worker, a great kid, a really good teammate,” coach Bruce Pearl said, per Auburn Undercover. “I just think he got in a situation where we were asking him to play point guard, and he found himself behind (Allen Powell) and (Justin Flanigan).”

Jones began the season as the starting point guard, but lost the job to Powell.
