SMU coach Chad Morris, a former offensive coordinator at Clemson from 2011-14, is reportedly interested in the opening at South Carolina due to obvious ties to the Palmetto State and a gig in the SEC.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked if Morris would be a good fit with the Gamecocks on Wednesday.

โ€œI think heโ€™s got a great job. Youโ€™d have to ask Chad (about) that,โ€ Swinney said, according to The Post & Courier. โ€œI think heโ€™s a great coach, obviously, and heโ€™s focused on doing a great job where heโ€™s at. If thereโ€™s another job out there heโ€™s interested in, thatโ€™s up to him.โ€

The offensive-minded Morris, who helped the Tigers win an ACC Championship and set school records with quarterback Tajh Boyd and playmaker Sammy Watkins, is currently 1-5 in his first season at SMU without much talent.

His tempo-driven spread attack is exciting to watch and he was Clemson’s top recruiter during his time on staff. Morris is another high school-to-college coaching story who has made the transition look rather easy.

Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and Memphis head coach Justin Fuente remain two of the front-runners according to oddsmakers, but Morris could be an ideal fit based on what the Gamecocks are looking for in their next head coach.
