Former Florida QB Kyle Trask signed by new NFL team

Former Florida Gators quarterback Kyle Trask was signed by the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in move made to round out the Panthers’ QB room following Haynes King’s injury during the Hall of Fame game.
King is expected to be out for some time after suffering a hamstring injury against the Cardinals. With Trask’s signing, Carolina’s healthy QBs include Bryce Young, Kenny Pickett and Trask. A pair of Panthers, Nick Hampton and Malick Meiga, were waived to make room for Trask.

Trask last played in the NFL under new Panthers HC Dave Canales at Tampa Bay, though he did sign on to the Falcons’ practice squad in 2025. Canales was Tampa’s offensive coordinator during Trask’s time with the Bucs, so it makes sense that he’d bring Trask in as he’s already familiar with his system.
The former Florida QB was drafted by Tampa Bay in the 2nd round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He attempted 11 passes across 3 seasons in Tampa, serving as a backup for Tom Braday and eventually Baker Mayfield.
Trask was incredible for the Gators in 2020. He spent 3 seasons in Gainesville but shined his final year, throwing for 4,283 yards with 43 touchdowns to 8 interceptions.
