Former South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore retired from the NFL without playing a single down in the regular season. Devastating knee injuries suffered in college were too much for him to overcome, forcing the early retirement.
With a career that ended so prematurely, it’d be understandable if Lattimore regretted how everything played out.
But, while speaking at a Touchdown Club event on Thursday, Lattimore said he’s at peace with how his football career ended:
โI didnโt picture my life to be like this,โ he said. โI had no clue what God had in store for me. All I know is, I feel fulfilled, Iโm happy and I love Columbia. So who knows whatโs next for me?โ
Something Lattimore would like to do in the future is coach for the Gamecocks. He said he’ll
โItโs definitely something appealing, without a doubt,โ Lattimore said of perhaps someday joining USCโs staff. โBut as of now, I think high-school level is perfect for me, just being able to invest in those guys and be around Columbia.
โWhen Will Muschamp calls my phone, whenever he needs me, Iโm there.โ
Through four games, freshman RB A.J. Turner leads all South Carolina backs with 157 rushing yards. It probably wouldn’t hurt for Muschamp to make that call to Lattimore sooner rather than later.
