The ESPN Football Power Index (FPI) has been a roller coaster this year. Though the top 5 teams have remained (mostly) steady, the order seems to fluctuate on a whim every week.

This week in college football saw Alabama dominate Mississippi State in Starkville. Ohio State went to Iowa and won big. The Georgia Bulldogs pulled away from Vanderbilt in the second half. And Mizzou picked up a statement win over Florida.

All that drama led to a change at the top of the rankings. Despite Georgia beating Vanderbilt, Kirby Smart‘s squad fell from the No. 1 spot as the Buckeyes regained the pole position. Texas, a team that has a head-to-head win over the Buckeyes, checks in at No. 4.

Here’s a look at the full FPI top 25 following Week 5:

  1. Ohio State
  2. Georgia
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Texas
  5. Miami
  6. Alabama
  7. Indiana
  8. LSU
  9. Oregon
  10. Tennessee
  11. Texas Tech
  12. Utah
  13. Nebraska
  14. Texas A&M
  15. Florida
  16. BYU
  17. Northwestern
  18. Mizzou
  19. USC
  20. Penn State
  21. Oklahoma
  22. Ole Miss
  23. Pitt
  24. Auburn
  25. Houston

For those keeping score at home, that’s 11 SEC teams in the top 25, the most of any conference. The 5 SEC squads that didn’t make the cut were Mississippi State (No. 27), Kentucky (No. 34), South Carolina (No. 38), Vanderbilt (No. 53) and Arkansas (No. 65).

What will happen next week? Check back next Sunday after an exciting Week 6 slate!
