Former Georgia, current Oklahoma assistant Shane Beamer’s mom didn’t like Lincoln Riley’s recent comments

Recently, Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley said Georgia’s defense wouldn’t have been a top-5 unit if the Bulldogs played in the Big 12.
It wasn’t meant as an insult to the Bulldogs, but rather as a compliment to some of the dynamic offenses in the Big 12, but that didn’t stop the comments from blowing up.
One guy who was caught in the middle was Shane Beamer, who had been a Georgia assistant for the past two seasons before moving to Oklahoma this offseason. Prior to a charity golf tournament on Monday, Beamer said his mother stood up for her son’s former team (via OnlineAthens.com):
“My mom got defensive defending Kirby and Georgia,” Beamer said Monday before playing in a golf tournament on Lake Oconee that included Georgia coach Kirby Smart. “She’s like, ‘You guys did shut them down that game.’”
Georgia coach Kirby Smart, who was also at the golf tournament, didn’t want to get into it too much, deflecting the question:
“I’ll be honest with you, I don’t get into all that stuff,” said Smart.
Again, this is a non-story, as Riley was just trying to compliment the Big 12. Still, you can bet that Smart will be asked about it at SEC Media Days next week.
