Former Georgia DB JaCorey Thomas reportedly transferring to Big 12 team

College football has been consumed by a recent slate of rulings allowing players from the recruiting class of 2022 to return to college for a fifth year of eligibility.
The LSU Tigers caught most of the headlines for their pursuit of players who had already been signed to NFL contracts, but they are far from the only program to try to add former college stars who had since turned pro.
According to a report from CBS Sports college football insider Chris Hummer, the West Virginia Mountaineers are adding former Georgia defensive back and Carolina Panthers’ rookie minicamp invitee JaCorey Thomas to their roster.
A member of Georgia’s top-ranked 2022 recruiting class, Thomas played in parts of all 4 seasons in Athens and started all 14 games for the Dawgs at safety in 2025.
He didn’t hear his name called in last May’s NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, but he did receive an invite to the Carolina Panthers’ rookie minicamp. Thomas couldn’t land a roster spot in Carolina, though, and has spent the past several months as a free agent.
Once the ruling came down that 2022 signees would be granted a fifth year of eligibility, Thomas made it known he would enter the transfer portal. Now, he looks to be making the move to Morgantown for one final year of college ball.
