Mark Mangino was back in Kansas recently to be inducted into the state’s sports Hall of Fame for his time at KU, and it’s safe to say he’s still a Jayhawk through and through when it comes to the Border War.
While meeting with the media at the Hall, Mangino was asked about his thoughts on the Missouri vs. Kansas rivalry renewal. Mangino last coached for KU in 2009, but it’s safe to say he’s as hostile toward the Tigers as ever.
“I think Kansas oughta go over there and spank them for leaving the conference,” Mangino told WIBW.

The Border War was played 120 times from 1891-2011. Mizzou’s exit from the Big 12 for the SEC, however, ended those annual meetings. At long last, the rivalry resumes in Week 2 in Columbia.
Mangino was KU coach from 2002-09. He posted a 4-4 record against MU.
Mizzou won the 2009 game, Mangino’s last, 41-39 in Kansas City. It started the active 3-game winning streak for the Tigers in the rivalry.
