Former Kentucky QB Cutter Boley named starter at Arizona State

Former Kentucky quarterback Cutter Boley, a member of the Wildcats’ 2024 recruiting class, has been named the starter at Arizona State, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
After appearing in four games in 2024, Boley stepped in as Kentucky’s starter in 2025 after an injury to Zach Calzada. In 11 games (and 10 starts), he threw for 2,160 yards and 15 touchdowns but added 12 interceptions.
Boley ultimately entered the transfer portal after the season and ended up at Arizona State. With Sam Leavitt transferring to LSU, Boley stepped into a QB battle that included Mikey Keene, a sixth-year transfer from Michigan who was Fresno State’s starter in 2023 and 2024, and Jake Fette, a true freshman.
Now, Boley will be tasked with helping the Sun Devils bounce back from a disappointing 2025 season. After ASU went 11-3 (7-2 Big 12) and made the College Football Playoff in Kenny Dillingham’s first season, it finished 8-5 (6-3) in 2025. Part of the Sun Devils’ struggles were due to a foot injury that limited Leavitt’s impact. He still ended up appearing in seven games and threw for 1,628 yards and 10 touchdowns while running for 306 yards and five TDs.
Arizona State opens against Morgan State in Tempe on Sept. 5.
