Arik Gilbert appears set to resume his college football career.
According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports/247Sports, Gilbert took part in spring practice at Division II program Savannah State and is set to be on the roster for the 2025 season.
Gilbert is looking to play in his first game since the 2022 football season. He has ties to 4 Power 4 programs.
Coming out of Marietta (Georgia) High School, Gilbert was rated 5-stars and the No. 5 recruit overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite. He signed with LSU.
Gilbert would only spend his freshman season at LSU. He played in 8 games of the COVID-impacted 2020 season, logging 35 catches for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns.
In 2021, Gilbert entered the transfer portal. He initially committed to Florida but never signed with UF, instead re-entering the portal. Gilbert landed at Georgia.
At UGA, only played in 3 games. He recorded his only stats, 2 catches for 16 yards and 1 touchdown, against Vanderbilt.
Ahead of the 2023 season, Gilbert transferred to Nebraska. He was arrested on a burglary charge in Nebraska and never played for the Cornhuskers. Last year, Gilbert was arrested in September for a second incident involving burglary.
Gilbert did not play during the 2024 college football season. It will be interesting to see what he can make of his new opportunity.
