It’s a new era of Florida Gators football down in Gainesville, as former Tulane Green Wave head coach Jon Sumrall was officially announced as the next head coach of the Gators on Sunday morning.
The hire came after a lengthy and oftentimes hectic month-long coaching search, but now that Sumrall is the guy, he’s wasting little time putting together his staff down in the Swamp.
He has already tabbed former Jacksonville Jaguars GM David Caldwell to take the same role with the Gators, and Florida insider Kevin Brockway is reporting that former Alabama OC and Giants head coach Brian Daboll could be a name to watch as Sumrall looks to fill his coordinator positions.
Daboll and Caldwell share a connection that goes back to their high school days, and Daboll has had great success as a play caller at both the collegiate and NFL levels.
He was the OC for Nick Saban at Alabama in 2017, where he helped them to a National Championship, and he also had the same role in Buffalo from 2018-2022, where he molded Josh Allen into one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks.
Now back on the job market following his unceremonious departure from the New York Giants, Daboll could find himself back in the college ranks once more with the Gators.
