Former Ole Miss standout and current Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams was arrested Sunday after returning from the team’s preseason game on multiple charges.
Williams was charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to Frisco Police. While Williams was arrested Sunday later in the day after the team returned, he was present for Tuesday’s practice.
“Everything I know about it, won’t impact his time on the field,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones reportedly said, while not commenting specifically on the arrest.
“This sounds a little hollow but he does and is maturing. And he is,” Jones continued. “What was he going, 66? Was he going 66 miles an hour? This year? So he’s 34 mph less than he was … so that’s improvement.”
It’s important to note here that Williams is subject to a fine or suspension for the incident under NFL policy. The unlawful carrying of a weapon is a Class A misdemeanor. According to police, the controlled substance charge is for another substance that is not for possession of marijuana — a state jail felony.
