A former SEC assistant who’s currently on an NFL sideline — and one with a familiar last name — appears set for his next stop in the pros.
Robert Muschamp, a defensive quality control coach with the Los Angeles Chargers, will join the Dallas Cowboys’ staff, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Muschamp has been with the Chargers since 2023, initially being hired by Brandon Staley before being retained by Jim Harbaugh.
Prior to his time in L.A., Muschamp, who walked on at Auburn before being put on scholarship before his senior year, was a defensive quality control coach at Georgia for two seasons. That came after a pair of seasons as a graduate assistant at Tennessee.
His uncle, Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, is obviously well known around the college football world. He was Auburn’s DC when the younger Muschamp walked onto the Tigers program in 2015. Robert Muschamp went on to join Georgia in 2021 after his uncle was named an analyst and later the Bulldogs’ special teams coordinator before taking co-defensive coordinator duties in 2022.
In Dallas, Muschamp will reunite with Chidera Uzo-Diribe, who was Georgia’s outside linebackers coach for four seasons before being hired for the same role with the Cowboys.
