Former SEC player mentioned as possible NFL Draft target for Patriots following Malcolm Butler departure

With reports out that former New England Patriots CB Malcolm Butler is going to sign with the Tennessee Titans when free agency officially begins on Wednesday, the Pats now have a hole on their defense.
Coach Bill Belichick has been known to rebuild through the draft, so it’s likely that the Patriots will target a defensive back with one of their first picks in April.
According to NFL.com analyst Chad Reuter, former Auburn star CB Carlton Davis could be an interesting second-round target:
If the Patriots address a different position in the first round, they could pick up Davis with the mid-second round selection they received from San Francisco in the Jimmy Garoppolo trade. Davis is not the most fluid corner in the draft, but his 6-foot-1, 206-pound frame and ability to stick with receivers inside as well as down the sideline give him a chance to quickly earn a starting role.
Former South Carolina DB Stephon Gilmore is already on the Pats’ roster, so Davis would have some fellow SEC alums to chat with.
Plus, for a rookie, going to the Patriots is never a bad thing, as Belichick’s crew is favored to go to the Super Bowl more often than not.
