Ayden Bussell once joined Tennessee as a key in-state piece for Josh Heupel and the Vols. Now, the former Tennessee product is headed to the Big 12 to continue his journey in college football.
Bussell confirmed his new destination on Sunday evening with a graphic on social media. He’s trading Knoxville for Morgantown with a commitment to play for West Virginia under Rich Rodriguez, who is returning to lead the Mountaineers after a successful stint at Jacksonville State.

Bussell was once a promising in-state prospect, coming out of Mt. Juliet High School as a 3-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class. He was the 61st offensive tackle nationally in that cycle per the 247 Sports Composite, but he redshirted as a freshman and could not crack the depth chart.
Now, Bussell joins a West Virginia program that is in a complete overhaul, as Rodriguez returns to the place he once led from 2001-07. Already among the most successful coaches in program history, Rodriguez will try and pull off another turnaround.
Bussell’s departure brings Tennessee’s outgoing transfer number up to 25 players this offseason, but none are as high profile as starting QB Nico Iamaleava, who is now at UCLA.
