Former Tennessee QB JT Shrout hasn’t been on a college football roster since 2023, when he concluded his career at Arkansas State. He spent just that 1 season at Arkansas State, following the 2021 and 2022 seasons at Colorado.
He, of course, started his career at Tennessee, spending the 2018-2020 seasons on Rocky Top with the Volunteers.
In parts of 8 games with Tennessee over 3 seasons, he threw for 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. But after 6 years of college football, he’s surely out of eligibility, right?
Well, in light of current Vol QB Nico Iamaleava’s reported impending transfer, Shrout took to social media to joke about whether or not he potentially has an extra year of eligibility:
In this era of college football where players are seemingly playing most of a decade, who knows? Maybe Shrout could sue the NCAA and get another year of eligibility.
Meanwhile, coach Josh Heupel and company will be searching for a new quarterback ahead of the 2025 season, one in which the Vols had aspirations to make another run at the College Football Playoff.
Are the Vols going to be better off without Iamaleava? Saturday Down South’s Spenser Davis explains why losing Iamaleava might not be all that bad for Tennessee.
