Former Tennessee cornerback Rickey Gibson made headlines this offseason as he announced he was entering the transfer portal. He was a big loss for the Volunteers, as they had hoped he would return and be the player he was in 2024.
Last year, he suffered a left arm injury in the opener against Syracuse, and was out for the entire year.
However, he entered the transfer portal, and the Volunteers will have to face him next season as he is staying in the SEC and heading to College Station to play for Texas A&M.
When he was healthy in 2024, he showcased his talents as he finished with 32 tackles and one forced fumble. He has the ability to make plays in the run game, and was a key part of a defense that helped lead the Volunteers to the College Football Playoff. The Aggies will be looking for him to bring some of that physicality to their defense.
Gibson entered the transfer portal after the 2024 season, but ultimately decided to return to Tennessee. He was a 4-star recruit in the 2023 class, and was ranked as the No. 31 cornerback and No. 289 player overall.
