The Florida State Seminoles absorbed their 4th straight loss of 2025 and fell to 0-4 in the ACC on Saturday night, and reports are surfacing about Mike Norvell’s coaching tenure in Tallahassee.
On3 Sports reported Sunday morning that Florida State decision makers were making phone calls in the wake of the Stanford loss to discuss a future with Mike Norvell in Tallahassee. Norvell’s contract buyout is a reported $54.4 million.
Norvell signed an 8-year contract extension in January 2023 worth over $10 million per season after he was reportedly pursued by Alabama to replace Nick Saban. Norvell restructured his contract in the wake of 2024’s disastrous 2-10 season to lower his 2025 salary to $5.4 million and include a 1-time contribution of $4.5 million to FSU’s “Vision of Excellence” initiative.
Language in Norvell’s contract reportedly calls for his buyout to be worth 85 percent of his total deal, and it can be paid in installments.
Norvell is 36-31 in his 6 seasons at Florida State, which included an ACC title in 2023 but a trio of under-.500 seasons as well (3-6 in his first season in 2020, 5-7 in 2021 and the 2-10 mark in 2024). Norvell is also under .500 in ACC play during that span, winning just 20 of 44 league games.
