The rumors have swirled for a while about Frank Martin’s future at South Carolina, and according to a report on Saturday, the men’s basketball coach’s days in Columbia may be numbered.

A decision on the coaching future of Frank Martin with the men’s basketball program will be rendered early next week sources told SportsTalkSC.com. Martin will meet with Gamecock Athletics Director Ray Tanner perhaps as early as Monday. According to sources, Martin will be presented with multiple options from the university, none of which includes remaining as the head coach.

The report noted that Martin has two years remaining on his contract and his buyout would cost the school over $6 million.

The Gamecocks were defeated in the SEC Tournament Thursday night to end their season with a 6-15 mark, 4-13 in SEC competition. The six wins are the fewest since the 1998-99 team went 8-21.

Perhaps the most troubling issue for Martin is the program has struggled since the Final Four appearance in 2017. After the loss to Ole Miss, Martin spoke to reporters about the program.

“Where does the university stand? That’s not for me to answer, because I’m not them and I’m not having those talks with those people right now,” he said. “When you build things without cheating, it takes time. You know I fixed this program and I know what’s not working this year, but the program ain’t broke. We fixed it once from a bad situation, we’ll fix it again.”
