Gamecocks’ AP Poll streak on the line against East Carolina

South Carolina’s garnered a national ranking in 66 consecutive Associated Press Top 25 polls, tying Stanford for the fifth longest streak in the nation.
That comes to an end this weekend if the Gamecocks, a 16-point home favorite, lose to East Carolina.
The same goes for the coaches poll, a list Steve Spurrier said he put his team in this week.
“Of course I put us in the Top 25 … yeah, gosh, we started at nine,” Spurrier said Tuesday. “(Texas) A&M, they were a Top 25 team. They’ll probably, they’ll move way up, we’ll probably move way down. They’ll go certainly, maybe in the Top 10. Maybe, maybe not. We put them in the top 10, put it that way.”
South Carolina fell from ninth to No. 21 this week and the Aggies, following a 24-point road win, switched places with the Gamecocks at No. 9.

“I’m going to say the same thing I said last week, we’ve got play well to beat these guys,” Spurrier said. “I said that the last time game, so don’t think we were overconfident. We were not overconfident. We got our butts beat. We were ready to play, they just completely outplayed us, outcoached us and everything else.
“So we have no excuses and I’m hoping and believing that we can play a whole bunch better. We’re going to play every game this year regardless. Yeah, there’s not going to be any give up.”
