“What were you thinking?โ plays will always be part ofย football. It is a very difficult sport played with a ton of variables that can effect the outcome of the game.
Every week, I’ll siftย through a bunch of plays that have many fans wondering what the player was thinking, and choose just one asย my boneheaded play of the week.
First let me say that I hate bad-mouthing players because I know the grind that these guys put in to be successful. But in this inaugural segment, I have to go with Bo Wallace and theย interception that ended Ole Miss’ hopes for an undefeated season.
I understand that Wallace is a gunslinger, and wants to try to win the game on every play. And let’s be honest, you canโt blame the 10-7 loss at LSU on one play. Butย if Wallace doesnโt try to make that throw and instead follows the instructions coach Hugh Freeze told the mediaย he gave his quarterback, maybe Ole Miss kicks a game-tying field goal and it wins in overtime.
I canโt say how many times Coach Spurrier cursed me out for trying to do too much and throwing a pick, but that’s just the way I played. I trusted my arm and trusted my receivers to make the catch. Call it the Brett Favre disease. I’m sure I would give myself this boneheaded play of the week several times in the course of my career, but that’s also because I’m also my biggest critic.
Wallace knows he messed up, and I know he’ll make the right adjustmentsย so they can get back on track. The Rebels offense has been a little shaky the last two weeks, and Wallace had some interesting things to say in his Monday press conference. That sometimes needs to happen though so that the coaches and players can get back on the same page.
Hopefully they can rebound and rebound quickly, because they have a hell of matchup against Auburn this weekend in Oxford.
There will never be a shortage of badย plays, but this week’s boneheaded play of the weekย is Wallace’s interception.
The Man. The Myth. The Legend.
