This session of quarterback of the week is a no-brainer. While there was another week of solid quarterback play around the SEC, one guy stood out above the rest.
Josh Dobbs of the University of Tennessee had himself a career game vs. my alma mater, the South Carolina Gamecocks. Dobbs did it with his arm and his legs. He was 23-of-40 for 301 yards and 2 touchdowns, and also rushed 24 times for 166 yards and 3 TDs.
He came up huge at the end of the game. Down 7 with nine seconds left, he rolled right, avoided a sack and hit a wide open receiver to send the game into overtime. It was one of the many top-notch plays this young kid made and Tennessee fans have to happy about the future of their program.
While the Gamecocks defense is playing abysmally this year, give credit to Dobbs. There’s no doubt that the future of the Tennessee Volunteers is now on the shoulders of this young quarterback. He broke on the scene last week against Alabama, and solidified his spot as the starter after a huge road win.
Teams are going to have a difficult time game planning for this offense for the next few years, as he can beat you so many ways. We’ll see if he can continue to ball out, as we all know that life as a quarterback in the SEC can be brutal (see: Kenny Hill). However, there’s little doubt this Dobbs kid can play.
