Garcia’s rant: Internet, Twitter full of trolls and ill-mannered ‘tough guys’

Ahh, the time for me to rant. Where has this segment been? My rant this week will focus on the good ole internet tough guys.

There really isnโ€™t anything worse than folks that feel the need to get behind their computer and unleash fury on a member of โ€œtheirโ€ team.

It really amazes me what some of these people say online, behind the shadow of a computer screen. I try my hardest not to respond to these imbeciles, but sometimes I just canโ€™t help it (see my Twitter account).

Iโ€™m all about having the freedom to express your opinions and say whatever you want, but my God, people. Maybe you should wait a second and find out all the facts and the entire story before casting stones.

Case in point, I looked atย what this one idiot sentย Marcus Lattimore yesterday on Twitter and I was amazed. This kid is one of the good guys. Yet this 49ers fan decided to take to Twitter to express his opinion of Marcus and what he said was ridiculous.

He called out Latt, saying that he โ€œwould tear his own ACL for a chance to be on a NFL teamโ€ and that Marcus is a โ€œquitter.” He said โ€œthe NFL is better off with guys like you out of the league.”Really buddy? I wanted to crush that moron’s soul, but I know that youโ€™re not supposed to feed trolls.

Another point, I noticed a few of the comments when I wrote aboutย Steve Spurrierโ€™s comments after the Vanderbilt game. I simply said that calling an SEC roadย win โ€œembarrassingโ€ was not a very good way to motivate your players.

I played for the guy. I know exactly what really goes on. Some people have different ways of motivation and I can assure you, that didnโ€™t work. It may have before, but not everyone is the same. It has nothing to do with the โ€œwussificationโ€ of America, because I can assure you, I am the furthest thing from a โ€œwuss,” as was every one of my teammates and every player in the SEC.

I just wish people werenโ€™t so damn quick to judge and take to Twitter to bash someone. For some reason, it’s no longerย guilty until proven innocent. There’s no longer โ€œhe just had a bad game.” That’s been replaced withย โ€œyouโ€™re guilty,” โ€œyou suck,” โ€œyouโ€™re the worst person and player of all time” and โ€œyouโ€™re a piece of $*^@.”

It is what it is, and I still cherished my time playing in the SEC. The fans are no question the most passionate in the country, but there are some trolls that are clueless and I felt like I needed to express that.
