Garrett Nussmeier and the LSU Tigers enter the 2025 college football season with high expectations as they look to finally break through and take that next step under coach Brian Kelly. Nussmeier is being looked at as a guy who has a chance to win the Heisman Trophy, while also potentially hearing his name called very high in next year’s NFL Draft.
He is representing the LSU program this week at the SEC Media days in Atlanta, where players and coaches in the conference speak with the media about many different topics in the sport. One of the biggest talking points thus far has been how difficult the conference is to play in.
Players and coaches have continued to say that the SEC is the toughest and most challenging conference in all of college football. Nussmeier was asked a similar question on Monday, and he answered with a short, but to the point type of answer.
“The SEC is the toughest conference in football,” Nussmeier told reporters. “I don’t care what anyone says.”
While the SEC always provides the team with a challenging schedule, the Tigers under Kelly have always went out and scheduled a tough non-conference schedule as well. This year is no different as the Tigers hit the road in Week 1 to take on Clemson. That game will feature 2 of the very best quarterbacks in all of college football, with Nussmeier leading LSU and Cade Klubnik being the guy for Clemson.
A win in that game will put LSU on a fast track to a great season, but as always, it will come down to being able to manage the challenging SEC schedule.
