Garrett Nussmeier, Jackson Arnold headline SEC’s Players of the Week

The SEC has released its the players of the week, and headlining the list are LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold.

Nussmeier took his LSU Tigers into Clemson’s Death Valley and knocked them off by a score of 17-10. Nussmeier completed 28-of-38 pas attempts for 230 yards and 1 touchdown. He looked like one of the best quarterbacks in college football and did so against a top 5-ranked team on the road.

Arnold and his Auburn Tigers matched up with the Baylor Bears on Aug. 29. While Arnold didn’t light it up throwing the football, he was able to get the offense going using his legs. Arnold rushed 16 times for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was Auburn’s leading rusher in the game by over 50 yards.

The SEC freshman of the week was Braylon Staley, a wide receiver at Tennessee. He hauled in four receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown in Tennessee’s win over Syracuse, 45-26.

Another Tennessee player made the list as defensive back Colton Hood was one of two defensive players of the week. Hood took a fumble 22 yards to the house and also added 3 passes defended and 4 total tackles.
