The SEC always fields some elite defenses, but there are some elite units within those defenses, too.
On Wednesday, the SEC Network posted a clip of former Auburn coach Gene Chizik discussing defenses on “SEC Now.”
As you can see below, Chizik named his best defensive units in the SEC. He said Georgia has the best defensive line, Alabama has the top linebacker corps and Texas A&M has the No. 1 secondary in the league:

Linebackers: Alabama

Chizik cited the return of Jordan Davis, among others, as keys to Georgia’s defensive line dominance. For Alabama’s linebackers, Chizik mentioned the trio of Henry To’o To’o, Will Anderson Jr. and Christian Harris as being impossible to stop. And, for Texas A&M’s secondary, Chizik said, “They return virtually every single guy back there. … They got guys on the perimeter.”
Will those units lead their teams to success this fall? We’ll find out starting in only a couple more weeks!
