George Pickens downplays career-best performance: ‘I’m just here to win’

George Pickens had quite the evening for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday. However, the star receiver and Georgia product downplayed that he was trying to prove something.
Coming out of last week, Pickens was a topic for comments to the media and head coach Mike Tomlin’s response. The head coach of the Steelers admitted the team would like to see Pickens “be more professional” in discussing shortcomings with the media.
Whether he was trying to make a statement or not, Pickens delivered his best performance as a professional in Saturday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He kickstarted the game with an 86-yard touchdown to open the scoring and added a highlight-reel grab near the sideline in the first half.
When it was all said and done, Pickens racked up a career-high 195 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns in just 4 catches. After the game, he said his focus is simply on winning and making the necessary adjustments to his game.
“I know I made some comments before the week that kind of ticked you guys off, but I just want to say I’m just here to win, to make the proper adjustments and be a great player, to be honest,” said Pickens after the win. We’ll see how Pickens adds to that performance but it’s certainly the type of performance he can build on.
