Georgia and Florida State have mutually agreed to cancel their upcoming home-and-home series and are instead opting to pursue a neutral-site game, according to a release from FSU on Thursday.

The 2 programs were scheduled to face off in 2027 and 2028, with Georgia set to travel to Tallahassee for the 2027 matchup and Florida State scheduled to make the return trip up to Athens in 2028.

Power programs are still feeling the aftershocks of conference realignment. The SEC and ACC recently made moves to adopt a 9-game conference schedule to accommodate recent additions. Partially because of that and the fact that there are limited spots at the table in the College Football Playoff, there’s just no remaining incentive for programs like Georgia and FSU to schedule non-conference road matchups against quality opponents.

Of course, money also plays a huge role in the ongoing and drawn-out death of quality home-and-home series, which often leaves the fans stuck with the short end of the stick.

“As we considered the effects of evolving scheduling mandates within both the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, we have mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of both schools to cancel our home-and-home series scheduled for 2027 and 2028,” Florida State AD Michael Alford said, via statement. “We are now discussing playing a future neutral-site contest, and we are optimistic we will get that done. Importantly, this change will not reduce the total home games on our schedule moving forward.”

Georgia’s season will kick off on September 5 at Sanford Stadium against Tennessee State.
