Georgia athletics instructs coaches to refrain from scheduling Texas Tech

In the wake of Monday’s Brendan Sorsby ruling by a Lubbock County judge, Georgia and Nebraska have sent department-wide memos to their athletic programs instructing them to refrain from scheduling Texas Tech for the time being.

Georgia’s memo includes instructions to contact administrators if teams are in active discussions to schedule the Red Raiders across all sports. Here’s a look at the memo sent to Georgia departments on Monday, via Yahoo! Sports’ Ross Dellenger.

Sorsby bet heavily while playing for Indiana and Cincinnati, violations he admitted to, leading to an NCAA investigation that determined Sorsby would not be eligible for the coming season. Georgia and Nebraska’s actions are in response to Monday’s decision that granted the Texas Tech quarterback a preliminary injunction, allowing him to play college football in 2026 despite the NCAA’s ruling.

Monday’s ruling has been appealed by the NCAA.

Georgia and Nebraska are the first programs to take this course of action, but the idea has already been thrown around the college football landscape according to a few reports. According to Dellenger earlier on Monday, multiple Big 12 officials are in serious talks about imposing similar restrictions — which would obviously be a big deal coming from league opponents of the Red Raiders.

Considering the money that goes into scheduling Texas Tech, file that one under “believe it when we see it.”
