Being a part of Kirby Smart‘s defensive coaching staff is always a distinct privilege, and Georgia appears primed to make a new addition to the group this week.

With outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe having been recently hired away by the Dallas Cowboys, the Bulldogs were in the market for a new man to fill the void.

UGA has a longstanding history of producing high-caliber linebackers, and according to On3’s Pete Nakos, the next coach who will carry on that torch will be former West Virginia pass rush specialist Larry Knight.

Ironically, Knight was only hired to join the Mountaineers in January of this same year.

He had previously been at Arkansas State in 2025 as the defensive ends and run-game coordinator, and he was the defensive line coach at Temple from 2023-2024 prior to that gig. Knight has also gone through stints at Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Tennessee and Cincinnati, and he’s even held internship positions with the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons.

As a player, Knight suited up for Central Michigan and was an All-MAC performer at defensive end in 2009.

Knight is also notably a native of Augusta, Georgia, making this a strong fit for a variety of reasons.
