It’s setting up to be a potentially great week for Georgia athletics.

Georgia football takes on TCU in the National Championship in less than a week (Monday, Jan. 9). As an appetizer, the Bulldogs basketball team pulled off a huge win over No. 22 Auburn Wednesday, winning 76-64 in Athens. That’s Georgia’s first win over a ranked SEC opponent since February of 2020, when the Bulldogs knocked off No. 20 Auburn.

Senior guard Terry Roberts led the way for the Bulldogs, totaling 26 points and 2 assists. Kario Oquendo added an impressive 17 points with 4 rebounds, helping lead the Bulldogs to a 1-0 start in SEC play. Georgia has not started conference play with a win since the 2016-17 season.

Georgia is turning over a new leaf under head coach Mike White, formerly of Florida. The Bulldogs are 11-3 to start the season with respectable losses to a strong Mid-Major UAB squad, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest.

Georgia has already nearly doubled its win total from last season. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but White and the Bulldogs are chasing their first 20-win season since 2015-16 and look to be ahead of schedule so far.

The Bulldogs can build on this win this Saturday against Florida.
