Georgia is winning plenty on the field this fall, with a 4-0 overall record, a 2-0 SEC mark and a No. 2 ranking in the latest AP Poll.
The Dawgs are sitting pretty right now in 2026, and on Tuesday afternoon they scored a huge victory in recruiting, flipping No. 1 JUCO prospect Alius Mayo from his commitment to California.
Instead of staying out west and heading to Berkeley, the 4-star cornerback who currently plays at Modesto College in Stockton, Calif., is heading to the South, to the SEC and to Athens.
Mayo had committed to California on Aug. 2, but that has changed now, and Georgia is getting the absolute top of the line when it comes to JUCO players. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings for JUCO players, the 6-foot-4, 190-pounder is the top overall prospect, as well as being the top-ranked cornerback and the top JUCO player from the state of California.
On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported Mayo’s flip from Cal to Georgia, as the top-flight corner is choosing the SEC over the ACC.
Mayo made his decision to flip his commitment after taking a surprise official visit to Georgia for last Saturday’s game against Oklahoma. The Bulldogs won the game in blowout fashion, and a few days later they managed to lure Mayo from his previous commitment to Cal.
Georgia defensive backs coach Donte Williams was also key in getting Mayo to flip, with his extensive California connections, and now the Bulldogs have a huge piece in their defensive backfield who’s set to join the roster in 2027.
