Georgia took down Alabama 20-17 on Saturday night, beating the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa for the first time in nearly 2 decades.
Georgia took a 3-point lead with 5:25 remaining. Alabama drove down the field and briefly got into field goal range before taking a sack on 3rd and long. Alabama opted to punt on 4th and 19, but never saw the ball again after Dijon Lee’s personal foul penalty allowed Georgia to run out the reminder of the clock.
This is a massive result for Georgia. With Texas going down on Saturday in Dallas, the Bulldogs are now in position to rise to No. 1 overall in the AP Top 25 for Week 7.
The Bulldogs also remain undefeated and are in the driver’s seat to get back to the SEC Championship in 2026. Georgia has won the SEC title in back-to-back years and is seeking its third consecutive title.
For Alabama, it’s a bitterly-disappointing loss. The Crimson Tide held a lead at the half but were unable to score a touchdown after the break. Alabama also allowed Georgia to average 7.5 yards per play and gave up over 200 total rushing yards.
