Georgia was the biggest winner in Week 6, as the Bulldogs went to Tuscaloosa and knocked off Alabama, 20-17. It marked Kirby Smart‘s first ever road win over the Tide and helped the Bulldogs stay undefeated.
With Texas losing to Oklahoma, the Bulldogs are now the No. 1-ranked team in the country and will put that on the line in Week 7 when they host Auburn. The two teams play in the ‘Oldest Rivalry in the Deep South’.
This will be the first matchup in the game for first-year coach Alex Golesh, and oddsmakers view his team as a major underdog in the game.
According to Circa Sports, Georgia is an 18-point favorite, with the over/under 49.5.
Gunner Stockton delivered an incredible performance against Alabama, finishing 18-of-22 for 249 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for a 14-yard touchdown and delivered by going 9-of-10 on third-down passing. Entering the game against the Crimson Tide, the Bulldogs hadn’t trailed in a game this year. They had to deal with some adversity, and Smart’s team passed that test with flying colors.
The Tigers were off last week and are coming off a 24-14 loss to Tennessee two weeks ago. The game against Georgia continues a brutal stretch for the Tigers. After the game against the Bulldogs, they have games against LSU and at Ole Miss.
Showing the team can be competitive against the elite teams is the first step for Golesh as the coach.
