Georgia is set to face Michigan in the College Football Playoff on Dec. 31 at the Orange Bowl. But with 10 days to go before the matchup, the Dawgs appears to be dealing with COVID-19 issues within the program as the rapidly-spreading omicron variant has become the dominant strain nationally.
According to Georgia football insider Graham Coffey from SB Nation’s Dawg Sports, JT Daniels has received a positive test, meaning he will be off the practice fields for the time being as he quarantines away from his teammates.
“Other members of UGA’s QB room are in close contact protocol but have tested negative so far. Daily testing will ensue,” Coffey reported.
Daniels has appeared in 5 games for the Bulldogs this year, seeing his last most recent action against Charleston Southern on Nov. 20. He has thrown for 722 yards with 7 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 2021.
The Bulldogs are not the only SEC football team with COVID issues within their roster. Texas A&M is facing an outbreak among multiple players ahead of their Gator Bowl matchup against Wake Forest on Dec. 31, with the program putting a pause on football operations since Saturday as a result.
