Georgia is cracking down this season in an attempt to curb the resale of student football tickets, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. As a new tactic in 2025, Georgia students will have to bring a form of ID to home games and there’ll be spot checks to confirm the identity of student ticket holders.
When Georgia finds out a student ticket was resold, the person will be asked to leave and the student ticket package is voided for the remainder of the season.
Georgia athletics told the Athens Banner-Herald the motivation is “to maximize opportunities for our students to attend football games. We have the best student section in the nation and want to keep it that way.”
There’s a strong desire to limit opposing fanbases from getting tickets that aren’t open to the public for them.
“We also want to make sure that tickets are going to UGA students and not fans of other teams,” Georgia’s athletic department added.
An entire season package for students costs $80 for the 7 home matchups. Georgia didn’t disclose to the Athens Banner-Herald how many students resold tickets last season.
Georgia kicks off the season with a home matchup vs. Marshall on Aug. 30 (3:30 p.m./ET) on ESPN.
