Georgia writer not buying into the hype following Tennessee’s hot recruiting run

The Tennessee Volunteers are red-hot on the recruiting trails recently, landing 8 commitments in the 8 days prior to Tuesday.
However, not everyone is buying into the hype that is building around Jeremy Pruitt’s Vol program.
Dawg Nation’s Mike Griffith is one of those saying “bah humbug” on Tennessee’s recent success. The Georgia writer appeared on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Tuesday and said the Vols aren’t doing anything special:
“[Tennessee] is still signing the same caliber of player as last year, they just got them committed earlier … Right now, it’s just good momentum and a lot of positive publicity.”

To be fair, good momentum and positive publicity are both really good things, so we’re not sure why Griffith sounds so dismissive of it.
The Vols currently have 18 commitments, with 2 5-star players and 4 4-star athletes. Georgia, meanwhile, has the nation’s No. 17 class, with 7 players. That class includes 1 5-star player and 5 4-star players (rankings via 247Sports).
There’s still plenty of time left for both programs, but this will be an interesting recruiting battle in the SEC East.
