Georgia’s Ellis Robinson IV comes up with acrobatic interception vs. Charlotte
Georgia was already cruising, up 21-0 on Charlotte midway through the 2nd quarter in Saturday’s nonconference warmup game at Sanford Stadium.
But if any certifiable Georgia fan was taking a little nap while the Bulldogs piled on the points, they missed a highlight-reel worthy interception by freshman defensive back Ellis Robinson IV. And if they did miss it, they’ll want to check out the highlights later because Robinson went all out to stop yet another Charlotte drive.
The 49ers had a 3rd-and-12 from their own 35-yard line when quarterback Grayson Loftis fired a pass that he hoped would get Charlotte into Georgia territory. But all Loftis found was the waiting arms of Robinson, who had to extend backward all the way to pull in the pass for 1 of the prettiest interceptions you’ll ever see.
Instead of a first down for Charlotte and a shot to cut into the Bulldogs’ big lead, Georgia had the ball back at its own 38-yard line.
Georgia football’s social media account celebrated Robinson’s play with this post:
Sure enough, Georgia turned the interception into points the other way, with an 8-play, 62-yard touchdown drive that gave the 4th-ranked Dawgs a 28-0 lead.
Georgia took a 28-3 halftime lead into the locker room, as it looked to get to 10-1 on the season in pursuit of a College Football Playoff spot.
