Glenn Schumann has been with Kirby Smart at Georgia since 2019, becoming the defensive coordinator in 2024.

The Bulldogs have been outstanding under Schumann since he took the job, and once again have a defense that is capable of leading the Bulldogs to another national championship. He has been looked at as one of the for-sure next coordinators to get a head coaching job. After Florida State fired Mike Norvell on Sunday, Schumann is being linked by ESPN as a guy the Seminoles should consider.

Florida State might target only those with head coaching experience, but Schumann is an intriguing coordinator option because he has been part of two elite-level programs at Georgia and Alabama. He was a student assistant and graduate assistant for Nick Saban when Alabama won four national titles. On-field experience has come under Kirby Smart at Georgia, which won consecutive national titles in 2021 and 2022 with Schumann as co-defensive coordinator. The 36-year-old was born in Valdosta, Georgia, not far from Tallahassee, and knows the region well. Before the season, one industry source said Florida State “would make a lot of sense” for Schumann.

The Bulldogs got back to their winning ways on Saturday, as they dominated Florida to the tune of 27-8. The defense was especially dominant, limiting the Gators to 252 total yards of offense. They also forced four turnovers, scored a touchdown, and had four sacks.

Right now, Schumann will be focused on helping the Bulldogs compete for an SEC Championship, as well as a deep run in the College Football Playoff. However, if the Bulldogs continue to have the season that they are, Schumann will be one of the most sought-after assistants in the country.
