Ed Orgeron says LSU’s 2019 squad has the best secondary he’s ever coached. The group led by elite safety Grant Delpit, arguably the best defensive player in the country. Alabama returns a ridiculously explosive receiving corps, including Henry Ruggs III, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle and potential Heisman Trophy candidate Jerry Jeudy. The match-up of UA’s pass-catchers against LSU’s defensive backs is going to be fun to watch this November. Delpit says he and his teammates are excited about the challenge.
โWe love playing against good receivers,” Delpit told reporters at SEC Media Days. “It shows the best on the best, and I think we have the best defensive backs in the nation. We also have great receivers too that we go up against every day in practice.โ
Last year, the Alabama passing attack accounted for 295 yards and three touchdowns in the Crimson Tide’s 29-0 victory in Baton Rouge. Delpit conceded that UA had the best offense LSU faced in 2018.
โYeah, I have to give it to them,โ Delpit said per Charlie Potter of Bama OnLine.
He thinks that this year the Tigers secondary will have the edge come Nov. 9 in Tuscaloosa.
โShoutout to them — to Tua and that group of wide receivers,” he told Potter. “Theyโre great, theyโre great athletes. They definitely know what theyโre doing. Theyโve got that offense down pat. Itโs tough to stop them, but Iโll take my secondary, our group of DBs any day.”
