Gunner Stockton and Georgia were able to get a huge win on Saturday night, as they knocked off Alabama, 20-17, in Tuscaloosa. It was a back-and-forth affair, with the Bulldogs taking the lead with 5:23 remaining in the fourth after Peyton Woodring made a 23-yard field goal.
Greg McElroy knows what type of environment it is in Tuscaloosa, and the analyst had nothing but praise for Stockton’s performance.
“On third down in particular, he was outrageous,” McElroy said. “9-of-10 for 104 on third down. 9-of-10 in Bryant-Denny. If you look at the windows, he was having to throw it in to… guys, it was well-defended most of the time. He was throwing it in places where only his receiver could catch the ball.”
Stockton finished the game 18-of-22 for 249 yards and one touchdown, while also scoring on a 14-yard run to start the third quarter.
To take the Bulldogs on the road and beat Alabama is as impressive a feat as any quarterback will have in college football. Georgia coach Kirby Smart had lost his first two games at Alabama before the win.
The Bulldogs will be back home in Week 7, as they take on Auburn in the ‘Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry’ game.
