Greg McElroy sees the big showdown in College Station this week as the SEC West championship game, and he expects a โ€œwar in the trenchesโ€ on Saturday.

McElroy noted the Aggies defense produced 15 tackles for loss last time out against Arkansas plus the Aggiesโ€™ back-to-back games with 7 sacks. The Aggies allow 18.6 points and 253.8 yards per game.

โ€œThis defensive line is completely wrecking havoc,โ€ McElroy said on โ€œAlways College Footballโ€ on Tuesday.

McElroy highlighted Aggies junior defensive lineman Shemar Turner as one โ€œwho can completely take over the gameโ€. Turner has 3.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 15 tackles this year.

Conversely, McElroy noted that Alabamaโ€™s offensive line โ€œhas been a little shakyโ€ this season. The Tide have allowed 20 sacks in 5 games thus far.

McElory on Texas A&M offense: โ€˜Theyโ€™re starting to get things goingโ€™

McElroy described Texas A&Mโ€™s offense as balanced. The Aggies had 200-plus yards on both the run and pass last week, McElroy noted, and the Aggies went over 200 yards rushing for a second-straight week.

โ€œTheyโ€™re starting to get things going,โ€ McElroy said. โ€œI really like what theyโ€™re doing.โ€

He noted that Aggies quarterback Max Johnson โ€œlooks comfortableโ€ with both throwing and running. Johnson has 436 yards passing for 6 TDs versus 1 interception, and he has 52 yards rushing on 16 carries.

In addition, McElroy talked up Aggies running back Leโ€™Veon Moss as โ€œincredibleโ€ this season. Moss has 276 yards and 2 TDs on 46 carries plus 5 catches for 34 yards as he took on a bigger role since SEC play kicked off.

โ€œYou just look at how balanced he is โ€” how he makes the first defender miss,โ€ McElroy said. โ€œLeโ€™Veon Moss is going to be a superstar in college football, and heโ€™s probably going to get there sooner than you realize.โ€
