Greg McElroy believes Georgia has what it takes to make a deep College Football Playoff run in 2026 — something that has eluded the Bulldogs in recent years.
Despite winning back-to-back SEC Championships, Georgia has not won a CFP game in any of the past 3 campaigns. Kirby Smart and Co. will be hoping to change that in 2026-27.
McElroy pointed to returning starting quarterback Gunner Stockton while expressing optimism in UGA’s CFP chances for this fall.
“Gunner Stockton is why I think the arrow points up,” McElroy said on Always College Football this week. “He managed the game beautifully at times last year. He is a proven, championship-caliber quarterback. Now, he’s just got to elevate his play a little bit in creating more explosiveness offensively. But I absolutely believe that he can do it.”

McElroy also noted that Georgia returns 14 starters and has a deep stable of blue-chip recruits to replace the players who left for the NFL Draft or the transfer portal.
“So Georgia, still the team to beat in this league until somebody beats them for it,” McElroy added.
