Greg McElroy explains why Jake Fromm has Georgia ‘so close’ to breaking through

The Georgia Bulldogs don’t have a quarterback controversy this offseason, as Jake Fromm will be the Week 1 starter barring an injury.
Fromm took over for Jacob Eason early in his freshman year and has never looked back, leading the Dawgs to the 2017 SEC title and a spot in the College Football Playoff. He then led the Dawgs back to the SEC title game in 2018, coming close to knocking off Alabama for the second year in a row.
During Saturday’s spring game, SEC Network host Greg McElroy had a lot of praise for Fromm, saying he has the Bulldogs on the verge of greatness (via 247Sports):
“They’re so close,” McElroy said during the G-Day broadcast. “Look last year, having Alabama on the ropes in each of the last two years. Fromm is a big reason why. He’s so steady at the position. He doesn’t make costly mistakes with the football. So many games at this level are lost, just given away. He will not give away the football. Very, very smart and a big reason why Georgia is one of the premiere programs is because of his leadership.
“His intangibles are off the charts. There’s probably still room to grow. That’s what’s so remarkable. He had such a great year throwing it last year, especially on third down. He’s very accurate with the football. It’s not the biggest arm in the world, but he has taken a liking to what they’re doing offensively under new coordinator James Coley.”
Fromm and the Dawgs are poised for another big year in 2019, but Alabama is once again looming in the SEC West. Whatever happens, though, it should be a fun year in Athens.
