LSU traveled to Clemson on Saturday night for what was a top-10-ranked matchup at the time. LSU went into the half down 10-3, but came out in the second half and didn’t allow Clemson to score another point. LSU would put a touchdown up in both the 3rd and 4th quarters and would go on to win the game 17-10. Garrett Nusmeier threw for 230 yards and 1 touchdown. Running back Caden Durham rushed 17 times for 74 yards and a touchdown as well.
However, Greg McElroy felt like it was LSU’s defense that made a statement in this game.
“The level of physical dominance that we saw with their defensive front against a Clemson team that is not really been pushed around a lot,” McElroy said. “And I looked at this LSU defense, and they were just getting after it.”
McElroy went on to say that the offense of LSU this year is much different than the offense from last year. Last year, they were a high-flying offense because their run game ranked dead last in the SEC last year in terms of rushing yards per game. This year, they are a much more balanced team.
“What I appreciate most about what I saw from LSU was an intentional priority to create a little more balance offensively, to take some of the pressure off the passing game, take some of the pressure off the offensive line, and a concerted effort on defense to be super aggressive,” McElroy said.
