Greg McElroy names ‘biggest question’ about Ole Miss entering 2026 season

ESPN’s Greg McElroy has mixed opinions about the Ole Miss Rebels as the 2026 season draws closer.
McElroy analyzed Ole Miss at length on his latest Always College Football episode, ranking the Rebels No. 11 in the nation. He praised Pete Golding and returning quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, but also pointed out some major question marks on this team entering the year.
“So why are they 11th and not 6th? The biggest question for me is the wide receiver weapons from a year ago,” McElroy said. “Those guys are gone, that’s a hole. The offensive line on the interior, that’s a strength. You bring all 3 guys back guard-to-guard. But tackle, right now, especially the right side, that’s a little bit up for grabs.
“They also play a very difficult schedule. I think the schedule is much tougher this year than it’s been in the past.”

Indeed, Ole Miss was tasked with rebuilding its wide receiver room this offseason. Harrison Wallace III, DeZhaun Stribling, Cayden Lee and Winston Watkins have all moved on to the NFL or other college programs.
The schedule is also a concern — the Rebels face Louisville in nonconfernece play plus 3 of the SEC’s top contenders in Georgia, Texas and LSU. The Rebels will also make road trips to Gainesville and Norman, among other tricky matchups.
“The reason that they’re 11 and not 6 is not the roster, it’s the schedule,” he added. “I believe that Ole Miss will re-load, I don’t think they’re rebuilding. I think they have a chance to be excellent. I just don’t know if an 11-1 or a 10-2 is likely. 9-3 feels more realistic with some of the teams they’re having to face.”
