Greg McElroy is gearing up for the 2023 college football season.

Earlier this week, McElroy gave out his favorite tailgating atmospheres in college football — and did so with an eye on a few key matchups on the 2023 calendar.

He began in the SEC with a highly-anticipated meeting between LSU and Ole Miss that’s scheduled for Sept. 30 in Oxford this season.

“LSU-Ole Miss is always going to be top 10. It doesn’t matter what the circumstances are,” McElroy said. “That one is always going to be top 10. You get those 2 teams together, you get those 2 teams playing against each other … the fan bases are very different and yet very similar all at the same time.”

Next, McElroy called out a non-traditional atmosphere with Texas-Oklahoma’s annual meeting at the Cotton Bowl during the Texas State Fair.

“Texas-Oklahoma is always a very unique scene. You’re going to the State Fair. You wear your Crimson and Cream or you wear your Burnt Orange,” McElroy said. “That one to me is always going to be unique.”

McElroy also gave a shoutout to Oklahoma’s other rival, Oklahoma State, as the Cowboys prepare to host Bedlam for perhaps the final time in 2023.

“I also think, this year, I want to go to Stillwater for Bedlam,” he added. “There’s no love lost between the 2 programs already. But you throw in the fact that those 2 teams are going to tee it up for the final time, perhaps … I think that one is going to be unique.”

Another rivalry that earned a shoutout from McElroy was the Backyard Brawl between Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

“You give me Pitt, you give me West Virginia, in Morgantown, good luck,” he said. “Because that could be a scene there on the 16th of September … Now it might be pretty hostile. I’m not going to sit here and say it won’t be. It’s going to be pretty hostile, but I kind of like hostile when thinking about tailgating settings.”

McElroy closed out the segment with a shoutout to App State and the atmosphere in Boone, North Carolina, on game days.

Here’s video of McElroy’s full thoughts on the topic:
