Alabama has yet to announce its starting quarterback heading into the 2025 season. However, ESPN’s Greg McElroy has a strong feeling right now on who it should be.
McElroy attended Alabama’s first fall scrimmage on Saturday and came away thoroughly impressed with redshirt junior Ty Simpson, who is competing with redshirt sophomore Austin Mack and true freshman Keelon Russell.
“The decisiveness of Ty, getting the ball out, knowing exactly where to go with the football, let your feet talk to you. I thought he had 1 bad decision in the entire day. 1 bad decision, which on practice 9, that’s phenomenal,” McElroy said on his radio show. “There were 2 instances in which him and the receiver weren’t on the same page…Easy to clean up. Guess what? Always a work in progress there…I think he should feel great about where he’s at.”
Simpson has been a prime contender to reins as a starter since last season came to a close. The 22-year-old has no starting experience in college but if he keeps this up the job will certainly be his.
Alabama is ranked No. 8 in the first AP poll of the season. The Crimson Tide will head to Tallahassee to take on Florida State on August 30 in their season opener.
