Greg McElroy says Alabama had a ‘maturity-defining’ win over Mizzou in Week 7
The Alabama Crimson Tide found themselves trailing in the blink of an eye against the Missouri Tigers last weekend. Coming off 2 emotional wins over Georgia and Vanderbilt, with a rivalry contest versus Tennessee on deck, it wouldn’t have been surprising to see Kalen Deboer‘s team in a trailing position all afternoon.
Instead, they rose to moment and prevailed, 27-24, on the road against a top-15 team.
Fans have grown numb to Alabama winning big games throughout the years. Greg McElroy, as a former Crimson Tide national championship winner, may even take the school’s greatness for granted at times. He was doing anything but, though, on the Always College Football podcast following Alabama’s latest win. McElroy believes the Crimson Tide’s victory at Mizzou was massive for team’s season-long aspirations on the mental side of things.
“This was a maturity-defining win for the Crimson Tide. This was a game that would challenge your maturity in every possible way… [in] the hardest spot on the schedule,” McElroy explained. “The way things started… you’re thinking, ‘oh boy, here’s the flat spot.’ And then, boom, Alabama [answers].”
The Crimson Tide have built an archive of big moments to look back on this year. No matter who they face the rest of the way, they’ve proven they can hang with and beat anyone, anywhere. There may be no more powerful tool in their arsenal than that as they embark on the back half of their schedule.
