Greg Sankey joined the Paul Finebaum Show on Friday evening, and there was certainly a lot for the pair to talk about.
Perhaps most interestingly, Sankey adamantly the “erroneous” talking points from congressional leaders that suggest the SEC is pursuing a merger with the Big Ten.
“What seems to be the tipping point in these discussions, is the notion, an erroneous notion, I want to be clear about that, and I shared this with Senator (Ted) Cruz along with my colleague Tony Petitti, we are not having some conversation about a merger. I do not want the SEC Network to somehow be confused with the Big Ten Network… I donโt think our fans want that or anybody wants that.”
Sankey went on to say that “outside entities” are attempting to manipulate the conversation.
“It’s been an effective strategy, but it’s not accurate…it’s not consistent with the truth.” Sankey said.
Sankey makes these comments just a day after meeting with Cruz regarding the Protect College Sports Act, an attempt to regulate and fix the current state of college football.
Earlier this week, Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti made similar claims shooting down the idea of a super league between the 2 powers, calling the talks a “fabrication” while speaking with Yahoo! Sports.
